Andreas Stucken is increasingly active as a curator for international artists. He curated the exhibitions "Hybrid Structures" by the Chinese artist Tang Hui in the Searching Art Center in Gulangyu, Fujian, China (2025); and "reflections" in the Neue Galerie Landshut (2025) and "DEGI-DEGI" in the Domagk Hall 50, Munich (2020) by the American artist Mark Harrington as well as "Das gelbe Zelt with 48 international artists at augsburg contemporary

“Das Gelbe Zelt” | Nov 30 - Dec 13, 2025

augsburg contemporary presents 48 contemporary international positions in the visual arts (China, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Ukraine, Malaysia, Netherlands, Sweden, USA), brought together in a 20 m² space. The tent, the original form of shelter, conveys the impression of a house, offering space and protection. Yet it remains fragile, with only limited security, no stable walls, and no permanence. The thin fabric shell creates a special space, a transitional area between inside and outside. Thus, the exhibition becomes a symbol of hope and confidence in these dark times, shining out into the world through the gallery's large display window. *Dagmar Amling, Anja Behrens, Oliver Braig, Albert Coers, Claudia Desgranges, Isabelle Dyckerhoff, Christian Frosch, Inge Gutbrod, Anja Güthoff, Zita Habarta, Zandra Harms, Mark Harrington, Reiner Heidorn, Thomas Hellinger, Angelika Hoegerl, Bettina Hutschek, Karen Irmer, Inge Jakobsen, Trisha Kanellopoulos, Liu Ke, Andreas Kocks, Oleksiy Koval, Anna Maria Kursawe, Elvira Lantenhammer, Florian Lechner, Carolin Leyck, Zhou Li, Lodtalad, A. Reflection on Surface | Mark Harrington's paintings unsettle the viewer's visual habits and are therefore not immediately apparent. They consist not only of a single support; in his latest works, he combines up to four of them, in different formats and each with a different reading direction. The painting material used is acrylic on linen, stretched over a grid-like wooden substructure. Other works, in turn, consist of acrylic on cardboard. Accordingly, we are not just talking about pictures in the conventional sense, but of pictorial objects. But all this is only the outward appearance that conceals another level. Harrington does not just paint; he literally works physically on his pictures. The recognizable surface consists of several layers of thickly applied paint, which are then applied while wet using specially manufactured tools. He does not use brushes. The result is the frozen progress of the process in its final state, as well as paint surfaces with lines that require a second and third look to fully comprehend their beauty. Mark Harrington was born in Bakersfield, California, in 1952. From an art historical perspective, he can be located in abstraction and minimalism. He does not submit to the zeitgeist, but rather continually develops his position over the years and defends it to this day. In this sense, his conceptual work stands alone in contemporary painting and deserves to be reflected upon, especially in an increasingly superficial world. Therefore, the exhibition title "reflections" is both a programmatic statement and an invitation to reflect on Mark Harrington's work!

Tang Hui's exhibition at the Searching Art Center is divided into various groups of works. Alongside works that appear realistic, we see delicate structures in unusual colors. Urban formations and plant situations sometimes merge into hybrids, creating the impression of a world we have never seen before. Tang Hui, born in Wuhan in 1968, teaches at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. For over 30 years, he has preferred to work with acrylic on canvas; a conscious decision that gives his pictures the brightness and depth he desires. The presentation of the artist's work cycles is centered by the floor-to-ceiling sculpture "stellares aurelia" in the middle of the building, thus completing this extraordinary art experience in Xiamen. The individual narrative threads in Hui's oeuvre thus combine to form a hybrid overall structure, allowing visitors to find their way through the exhibition, redefine viewing habits, and let their imaginations run wild. | Tang Hui's exhibition at Searching Art Center is divided into different groups of works.
